Question for any kinesiologist or natural health practitioners?

Did you find it difficult starting out your business at all? I am thinking about studying kinesiology, (or perhaps alternatively naturopathy) I was wondering if there is much demand for the treatment, & if it is hard to get work afterwards…. Any help appreciated, thankyou

You did not specifically ask about chiropractic, but it's along the same vein as your question. I am a DC in Boise, ID. It was difficult starting out, as any new business is in the beginning. It takes time to learn how to communicate with people. As you know, the majority of Americans are committed to the medical model of healthcare. We are asking them to begin to take responsibility for their own health and to discard the idea that their doctor, of any type, is responsible for them. Many people think that health problems just fall out of the sky and hit them in the head, that they had nothing to do with it. The difficulty comes when we try to change this viewpoint. People are at a level of consciousness that suites them; it does not matter what you say. More and more I am seeing patients who want to take some ownership for their health care. They see the value behind the cost and are willing to pay for it out of pocket.

I think now is a good time to get into this field of natural healthcare. Baby boomers are older and sicker, they have some money to spend and they are pretty educated as a whole.

My only advice is that you enter into a profession that has some robust credentials and licensing. This has nothing to do with the level of expertise and understanding and everything to do with your marketability and scope of practice. Patients get off on knowing that you had 6 or 10 years of college and you had to pass a national board exam and that you are licensed by your state etc…

The key to success in this business is to be able to effectively communicate what you do and its value. If you can do that, you'll make it.

LAcc, DC, DOM, ND are a few good options.

Good luck to you.

Complementary Treatment, Alternative Therapies and Natural Cures for Prostate Cancer

Complementary and alternative therapies for cancer of the prostate are health care practices that are not usually part of common medical treatment methods. These therapies can include natural cures for prostate cancer such as herbs, vitamins and minerals and dietary supplements. They can also be procedures such as acupuncture, massage, homeopathy and the use of magnetic fields.

Most medical societies are not advocating natural cures for prostate cancer as a lone treatment method. According to them, these alternative therapies should be used in conjunction with regular treatment options and should not be expected to cure cancer. Some scientists are against the use of these alternative methods because they allegedly create false hopes. Scientists have warned that alternative cures should be considered as methods designed to improve the quality of life of a cancer patient and not to treat cancer. They also cautioned that although some alternative therapies are harmless, they might detract, delay or interfere with regular therapy which could create negative results.

One example of these alternative therapies is homeopathy. Homeopathy is a treatment philosophy that follows the like-cures-like principle. The basic principle is that substances that cause symptoms of illness in healthy people can be used in small doses to cure similar symptoms among those who are ill. Advocates of this philosophy have recommended Chimapilla, umbellata, Clematis, Causticum, Staphysagria and Bartya carb as homeopathic remedies.

Some studies have also advocated the use of magnetic fields to cure cancer in the prostate. It has been suggested that sitting for hours in a magnetic pad can inhibit the growth of prostate tumors. This result is allegedly due to the ability of the north pole-associated field to slow down the biological growth of a tumor. In this therapy, the magnet's north pole field is the only one used to treat prostate cancer.

Acupuncture and massage are primarily recommended as complementary therapies to relieve some of the stress and tension that can result from being diagnosed with cancer. These procedures are primarily used as complementary and not as alternative treatments. The importance of maintaining a more relaxed body and mind can help a cancer patient cope better with the disease. Most doctors do not oppose the use of massage and acupuncture as long as it does not interfere with a patient's regular treatment regimen.

The debate on the effectiveness of complementary treatments, alternative therapies and natural cures for prostate cancer is still ongoing. For patients, the best thing to do is to discuss with their doctors the advantages and disadvantages of adding these methods to their regular treatment programs.

Natural Acne Treatment

Many people are looking for natural acne treatment these days. The benefits of using natural medicine or methods from various cultures have been seen for thousands of years. In reality, thorough research has shown that without a level plan of using vitamins, fruits, natural minerals and other nutritional foods, one cannot be at their best in good health. You will undoubtedly see this same way of thinking when it comes to the horrible condition of acne. Perhaps acne is one of the topmost important conditions to be treated naturally due to its prevalence in the teenage years.

Because this acne condition is mostly caused by a high level of skin oil and the small bacteria that consumes it, a certain measure of prevention can be taken by easily making sure your face, body and hair are kept consistently clean. Truly, this method will definitely help acne cases that are not severe and some that are. Along with keeping clean, importance can be given to eating correctly to help prevent this condition. It is known that many foods can encourage acne to persist. Being alert at what foods might increase the condition of acne is very helpful.

Avoidance or reduce your intake of foods that contain too much high sugar, oily foods, meat (pork), transfatty acids (like margarine, milk products, fried foods), or high iodine foods like cheese, liver, and iodized salt.

Some natural substances exist that will help treat the acne condition. These may hopefully come close to getting that acne natural cure. These substances include sulfur containing products, zinc, Pantothenic acid, and Azelaic acid.

First, the use of items with sulfur content for helping skin has existed for many many years. Products such as these with sulfur are used as an antiseptic that is topically applied to the skin. In many cases, they can be very effective. You'll find that quite a few product medications have sulfur as one of the ingredients. Although most products don't have this ingredient and usually use benzoyl peroxide instead, some manufacturers do use it.

Secondly, zinc is commonly used to help with treating acne naturally since it is they nutrient of prime importance to consistently stabilize the human body. One area this helps with is keeping high testosterone levels at an even keel. During puberty these levels can go haywire and definitely can encourage the development of acne. Therefore it is good to stabilize these levels with zinc. The zinc also helps keep the immune system strong and assists with the control of inflammation.

Thirdly, Pantothenic acid at high doses can be very effective in helping to treat acne naturally. A usual dose of 10 g per day will often be used. Research studies have found that this acid work against acne fast by lowering the amount of skin oil produced by the body.

Lastly, Azelaic acid which is natural has been shown to give decent results that are possibly equal to benzoyl peroxide, tetracycline, and/or Retin-A. The products do with this acid containing a 20% amount have been seen to be most effective. Most all ranges of acne can be effectively treated with this substance naturally. However, it is important to note that it can take up to four weeks to show good effects when using products with the substance.

These substances should definitely help your way to being a natural acne treatment for your body. Sometimes you have to look extensively to find these substances in products but they can be found. Let me also say that other important nutrients should be used also including vitamins B6, E, and A, but also selenium, and chromium. Most all of these can be found in a local natural foods store or online.

Is there a home treatment of natural antibiotics for dogs for kennel cough?

I just got a puppy from the pound and he had kennel cough, I took him back and they said that there is no treatment for this. They did give him antibiotics for a possible secondary infection but kennel cough has to run its course much like a humas virus has to. They did say I can use Robitussin DM for the coughing symptoms. The puppy is fine but now my older dog has it, the vet said we have to let it run its course but she looks so miserable. I am giving her robitussin but I want to give her a boost of natural antibiotics that are safve for dogs. I did get some drops from the health food store but they do not have any antibiotic properties.

HELP! Thanks

With the rubitussin it should only last a few days. I do use lysol spray all around the house. They will sneeze when you first spray it.

Natural Acne Treatment That Work

Perhaps by now, you have tried just about every cream in the market specific to acne treatment, but without success. So, how about trying some natural acne treatments that work? Perhaps they could help more than all the over-the-counter products you've been using. For instance, how about trying one of the following natural acne treatments that work?

Acne ice treatment - If you apply ice to your acne, it can help your swollen pores close and prevent bacteria from entering your skin. You need to use ice in conjunction with pimple or acne cream to see good results. To use ice, wash your face and hands with acne soap and rub a few cubes over the infected area until your face feels cold. The ice will reduce the swelling and make your medication work better. Once you apply your medication, cover a few ice cubes in soft cloth and rub over your pimples.

Baking soda - Use baking soda as a scrub to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin that can clog pores and lead to acne. Make a mix of baking soda in water and massage it into your skin for a few seconds. Then, rinse it off and dry your face with a towel.

Sugar and olive oil - Dissolve sugar in warm water and add olive oil to the solution. Sugar's anti-bacterial action will expedite cleaning your acne blemishes.

Apple cider vinegar - You can choose between using apple cider vinegar or plain vinegar to clear your face by diluting it in water in a ratio of1:8. Its kills any acne that causes bacteria and balances your skin's pH, besides absorbing extra oil on your face.

Tomatoes - Apply mashed tomatoes to your face and leave on for about 10 minutes, and wash it off. Do this once a day and you will see results in two weeks.

Oatmeal - Oatmeal is a good scrub besides also being able to absorb extra oil and extracting impurities from the recesses of your skin. Cook oatmeal and allow it to cool, and then rub it over your washed skin. Let it remain there for a while, treating it as a mask and then rinse off. If done regularly, you will notice
good results.

Lemon juice - One more natural acne treatment that works involves using lemon juice as a substitute for vinegar. Being rich in citric acid, it can be a good exfoliator and can retard the appearance of acne spots and fade old inactive acne.

Tea tree oil - This is antiseptic in nature and can serve to kill bacteria, if used directly to acne spots.

Olive leaf extract - This helps strengthen the liver which is important, because a healthy liver removes all the dirt from our blood from excess hormones. And as you know, clean blood only means healthy skin.

Should You Consider Natural And Alternative Treatments For Your Health Needs

It is safe to say that most people in the United States go to the doctor when they feel ill. The doctor will treat the illness by prescribing some type of medicine. We then take what he or she has given us and hopefully feel better. This is how modern medicine works, and what we, as a society, come to believe is the only way to receive treatment. If anyone were to suggest we think about alternative medicine, we would probably dismiss it as foolishness.

That was not always the case though. Before the introduction of man made medicines, people of all cultures had to rely on home remedies. Some cultures used herbal medicines, while others would have a village medicine man who local people would visit for treatment of whatever ailed them. He would then pass on his knowledge of the healing powers of herbs to his apprentices so that they could continue his work. Today this is what we call natural medicine.

Natural medicine is the use of traditional methods to treat sickness. With the birth of modern medicine, most doctors discarded the use of herbs and other home remedies and replaced them with man made drugs. What they failed to remember is that natural treatments are based on the healing properties of herbs. Even some of the drugs they continued to use, such as aspirin, quinine and digitalis had been once considered home remedies.

Strangely enough with all of our technological advancements and modern ways of thinking, we are going back to the old ways and once again embracing natural medicines. Quite a few organizations have dedicated themselves to the study of these old fashion methods. Even government and health agencies advocate the use of certain treatments.

Natural treatments also tend to focus on living a healthy lifestyle, not just treating a patient when they become ill. Practitioners of these treatments focus mainly on diet and living well. So, Mom was right when she said to eat our vegetables.

But before you run out and visit you local acupuncturist, it would be best to consult a physician to find out if this is the best possible treatment. With more and more studies being conducted, many treatments have been proven to be ineffective in treating serious conditions. It is believed that these remedies are more appropriate to be used for minor ailments, and might be best used in conjunction with modern medicines.

It is funny how things have come full circle. For many years natural medicines were believed to be a bunch of old wives tales. Now doctors are seriously considering the validity of some of these so called "out of date" treatments. Some have even gone so far as to combine natural medical practices with modern medicine. Hopefully this will open the door to finding out how much more nature has to offer to our society.

Natural Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that refers to the inflammation of your joints. When your joints are inflamed, you experience pain, swelling, stiffness and general discomfort. It results from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances, or other causes.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease whereby your immune system starts to attack its own body tissues. It is also considered a progressive disease. This means that over time, your arthritis symptoms can worsen.

There are over 100 different classifications and types of arthritis. It is likely that if you have been diagnosed with one of these, your doctor would have prescribed you the appropriate drugs for it. Although drug medication can be used effectively to treat many kinds of arthritis, there are potential side effects when you become over dependent on them for arthritis pain relief.

Turning to a natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis is an option you can consider. Such a treatment does not usually involve the use of prescription medications and would have virtually no side effects. Here is a quick run-down on some of the newest and most popular natural rheumatoid arthritis treatments. They may be used alone, or in conjunction with each other.

Physical therapy. This is a very popular natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis as it is highly effective. In many cases, regular prescribed exercises can even improve the range of physical motion substantially. Physical therapy can also help you deal with muscle and joint stiffness, increase muscle strength, and reduce allover pain.

Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese healing method that dates back more than 3,000 years ago. It is used to effectively treat the symptoms of arthritis, in addition to other health ailments. Acupuncture is a procedure used in which specific body areas (or meridian points) are pierced with fine needles for therapeutic purposes or to relieve pain or produce regional anesthesia.

As a natural treatment method, acupuncture is fast gaining popularity in America and other western countries. By 1993, Americans were making 12 million visits per year to acupuncturists, and spending $500 million annually on acupuncture treatments. By 1995, there were an estimated 10,000 certified acupuncturists practicing in the United States; as of 2000, there were 20,000.

Acupresure. Acupressure is another ancient Chinese form of therapy that has been used for thousands of years. It is also used to as a natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. In contrast to acupuncture, here, the acupressure practitioner uses his or her fingers instead of needles. Studies have shown that acupressure seem to release endorphins in patients, causing feeling of pleasantness and comfort. It appears that acupressure has strong anti-inflammatory healing abilities for rheumatoid arthritis.

Relaxation therapy: Relaxation therapy is a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates several different therapies working toward a common goal. The goal of relaxation therapy as a natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis is to release muscle tension and joint rigidity to reduce your overall pain and discomfort. The different relaxation therapies include meditation, yoga, stretching exercises and Pilates.

Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is fast becoming a popular therapy for rheumatoid arthritis patients as it is fun and can be very effective. It involves a series of water exercises, usually done in lukewarm water. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis report that the feeling of warm water helps to relax them and provide much relief from their pain.

In addition, several studies have shown that hydrotherapy is an effective therapy that helps reduce the weight and pressure on the joints. The warm water relaxes the muscles and helps reduce the feeling of stiffness. Hydrotherapy is also effective in weight management, which is particularly important if you have rheumatoid arthritis.

Occupational therapy. Occupational therapy is often used as a complementary and natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. In occupational therapy, you learn how to use their body parts more efficiently. Occupational therapy helps in ensuring that you can go about your everyday chores and tasks so that less tension is placed on the joints. Specially made splints are often used to help patients accomplish certain tasks without placing excess pressure on their joints. You and your occupational therapist can work together to tackle any specific challenges that you face. Your occupational therapist can design specific exercises for this purpose and train you in the use of special assistive devices.

Hot and cold therapies. These therapies take advantage of the effects of certain temperatures on the joints. Compresses, ultrasound devices, and warm wax may be used to apply heat to the joints. Ice packs may be used to apply cold temperatures to the affected areas. The efficacy of heat and cold therapies varies according to the patient.

It will also be a good idea to keep a journal of which natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis works for you. That way, you will have records of what works and which natural treatment to use in combination. Most often, the use of a combination of natural treatment methods may just do the trick for your rheumatoid arthritis pain treatment.
